Every day I am amazed at how this country has changed, don’t get me wrong I am all for change as it helps to progress into the future. In today’s world each second is filled with information that 20 or 30 years ago took days to fill. Cell phones are so small that you can never find them when they ring, texting has replaced talking, e mail has replaced regular mail, my 13 basic T.V. stations and the UHF and VHF channels have been replaced with HD channels that are so many you need a tour guide to find what you are looking for.
The media is in your ear, your head and even on your phone 24/7 so that you won’t miss any details of any news that is happening around the country and around the world. Don’t misunderstand I want to be informed but not for 30 straight days of the same topic! Nancy Grace, you annoy me! I can’t change the channel fast enough to get away from you but with 1800 channels I always end up finding you!
As it is said everything old is new again but the one thing that has not changed and can be called old and new is giving. There are many ways a person or family can give. They can give time to help someone complete a task, they can give clothes to less fortunate to help keep them warm, they can give food to help keep them nourished and they can give money or Tzedakah as a remembrance or acknowledgement to celebrate and event or to help in difficult times.
Roberta and I are strong believers in giving Tzedukah for all occasions good and bad as it is a way to show how much we care about someone. When you give it also helps educate and promote your unselfishness so maybe the next person will give as well. With the Jewish New Year quickly approaching let’s turn off the T.V., silence the cell phone, forget about life in the fast lane, put down that latte and pick up your checkbook and take a minute to think about those less fortunate and what a little giving would mean to them.
I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, sweet and prosperous New Year!
B’Shalom
Richard
