My favorite line in the Rosh Hashanah liturgy is “choose life.” When I need a little inspiration, they’re the words that pop in my head. Especially around the holidays, they get me thinking “what can do to better to enrich the lives of others?” For me, the answer is Sisterhood.
Through this wonderful Temple group, I get to meet new women in our community and develop connections that go beyond the day-to-day. I hope you’ll join us. Try some of our programs. You’ll be inspired by the women of our congregation.
As President of Sisterhood, I’m asking our group to take risks, to break out of our comfort zone. We’re working to be there for new Temple members, and for those who haven’t been involved in Sisterhood before. To ask, “what can we do differently?” It’s one of the reasons we held a Mystery Party in June – a great idea by Mitzi Sacks, who co-chaired with Wendi Lyons to bring together women of all ages. It’s why we’re adding more social and educational programs to our mix. And why we’re conducting a member survey in September, led by Raechel Hammer, Robin White and Beth Zaneti It’s also why, together with the Men’s Club led by Rich Budman, we’re hosting a New Temple Member event on September 18th. If you’re a mom with young kids, babysitting will be provided by the terrific kids of TEFTY. If you’ve recently joined the Temple, we hope you’ll come out for a casual, get-to-know-you evening.
Sisterhood goes well beyond having a good time. We support our Preschool, our Religious School, our Youth and our Temple congregation. We funded the Preschool Playground. We host a Hanukkah Happening in December and a Model Seder in the spring for religious school. We provide gifts for our Bar and Bat Mitzvot and for students’ consecration and confirmation. And for the Temple, we make ongoing contributions to the Rabbi’s Good Works Fund via scrip and we’re donating a new bench for the outdoor chapel.
As you think about the New Year, think about choosing Sisterhood and discover the many ways it can enrich your life. If you have any ideas, questions or feedback, I’d love to hear from you!
