Rabbi Geri Newburge
joined Temple Emanuel as
assistant rabbi
in July 2003. Rabbi Newburge was ordained from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (Cincinnati) on May 31, 2003. She is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. During her tenure at HUC-JIR she served student pulpits in Rapid City, SD, Valparaiso, IN, and Austin, TX, as well as completing a two year internship in the Youth Programs Department. Before joining Temple Emanuel, she fulfilled a rabbinic internship at Temple Emanuel of Greensboro, NC. While in Cincinnati, Rabbi Newburge was involved in campus and community activities, including a stint as the Rabbinical Student Association President and was asked to be the welcoming speaker for the Ohio Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony at HUC-JIR. Rabbi Newburge grew up in South Florida and graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A. in Religious Studies in December 1994; then, in 1995 she moved to California to pursue a M.A. in Religion at the Claremont School of Theology. She received her degree in May 1997. She is married to Rabbi Eric Goldberg, who is Regional Educator at the Union for Reform Judaism, and Reform Education Consultant at Auerbach CAJE. They have a beautiful and friendly Siberian husky named Zeke. Rabbi Newburge loves to cook and bake. She also enjoys reading, exercising, and being outdoors (but only when it's not too cold). Both she and Rabbi Goldberg look forward to wonderful years in Cherry Hill. |
